Orchestrator

Most recent orchestrations/arrangements include Alex Newell’s performance of “My Strongest Suit” for AIDSWALK 2021, Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s “Schools Out” broadcast with Justin Roberts, and arranging/producing for the latest Samantha Joy Pearlman EP.


Andrew is the Orchestrator (and Producer) for Bite-Sized Broadway: A Mini-Musical Podcast, which was a finalist in two categories for 2020’s Discover Pods Awards: People’s Choice and Best Music Podcast as well as a 2021 Webby Awards Honoree. He is the orchestrator for Matthew Hardy’s Virtuoso, which premiered at Teatr Muzyczny in Fall 2020.

Andrew generated orchestrations for the 10th Anniversary Gala Concert Starkid: Homecoming featuring Darren Criss, Carlos Valdes, and AJ Holmes. Past theatrical orchestrations include grammy-nominee Justin Roberts' Hansel and Gretel, Starkid's Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier, Foreverman (Winner 2012 NYMF Awards for Excellence, Outstanding Orchestration), Roads Courageous, various pieces for the annual Broadway In Chicago concert in Millenium Park, and the "Still" orchestration for From Broadway With Love: A Benefit Concert for Sandy Hook.

In response to the hardships visited on youth theater programs by COVID-19, he worked with Beat by Beat Press to orchestrate three new musicals for remote/hybrid performance by youth groups.

Andrew composed new string quartet arrangements for a special performance by Against the Current. He was the musical coordinator for the North American premiere of Stephen Schwartz's My Fairytale and has contributed orchestrations to the children's musicals Sally Sells Seashells (And You Can, Too!), Space Pirates, It's Easy!, and Tut, Tut!as well as arrangements for countless cabaret and concert acts in the NYC area. 

He also, uh, did this thing, I guess? Look, 2020 was a weird year for all of us.

Vocal Coach and Teaching Artist

Andrew is a vocal coach and music director specializing in popular and contemporary repertoire. In addition to his private practice, he is the lead teacher and co-designer for the Contemporary Vocals/Pop Star! program at AMDA NY (six years running!) and was a founding faculty member and curriculum designer for Purchase College's Summer SongwritingCreative Vocal Lab, and Vocal Intensive programs. Internationally, he founded Urban Nomad, Shanghai’s first improvisational a cappella ensemble, and co-founded Nvak Foundation, an innovative music education program sponsored by Atlantic Records that focuses on empowering and elevating young people in conflicted and/or struggling regions via popular music. In his three years with Nvak as lead teacher and curriculum designer, Andrew saw his students collaborate with major recording artists - including Ben Moody, Sebu Simonian, and Serj Tankian - and perform their original songs on Armenian Late Night Television. Nvak was also the subject of a documentary profile by Al-Jazeera English.

Andrew is one of the few musical theater performance coaches in New York who also has extensive vocal producing experience in the pop world, allowing his students a competitive edge of authenticity when handling pop, rock, and r&b repertoire.

Songwriter

Andrew is a composer in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Songwriting Workshop and a proud participant of The Circle Songbook. Andrew's children's musical, Caveman 2.0 (co-written with Emmy-winner Sherry Coben and Twisted lyricist Kaley McMahon) received its World Premiere in May 2018 at Artistree Performing Arts. His songs from musicals in development and cabaret stand-alones have been performed throughout New York, and his short musical Pack Rat (written with lyricist Brett Boles) was selected by Emerson College for their Developmental Lab Series. He also served as the songwriter and pianist for Jamil Ellis’s The Magical Negro Speaks at NY Fringe.

Producer/Composer

In Spring 2019, the Manhattan Four String Quartet toured China with Andrew’s reimagining of the traditional Chinese folk song “Mo Li Hua”.

In addition to having orchestrated Twisted, he also produced its original cast recording (which reached #63 on the iTunes Top 100) and the Twisted: Twisted bonus record, which featured Andrea Ross and Italian jazz vocalists Cluster. (Click here for the Hypable.com review of Twisted: Twisted.) Andrew also co-produced the original cast recording for Hansel and Gretel.

Andrew produced Tha Los' (AKA Carlos Valdes) sophomore EP, Night Off. As House Arranger and Artistic Director for Stacks of Wax Production from 2012-2016, Andrew produced and arranged for artists across the globe in many genres. As of writing this, the youtube video for his disco orchestration of "Call Me Maybe" has been viewed over 650,000 times. 

Film work includes original scoring for Dream Lover, arrangements & music production for Thunderstruck: An AC/DC Movie Musical, assistant scoring for The Anonymous People, original songs for Solomon Grundy: Born on a Monday, arrangements for the webseries Kef Date, and contributions to several award-winning shorts.

Copyist and Transcriptionist

Oh! Almost forgot: Andrew also does music engraving, transcription, and copyist gigs. Clients have included Stephen Schwartz, Steven Van Zandt & Darlene Love, Starkid, Beat by Beat Press, and Alex Goot; as well as the off-Broadway shows Disenchanted: Bitches of the Kingdom and The City Club
